Saint Mary’s names Jami-Sue Coleman as program director of the Registered Nurse Graduate Transition to Practice Program

Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center will soon launch a new program, the Registered Nurse Graduate Transition to Practice Program (TPP), designed to provide extensive training opportunities for northern Nevada’s newest registered nurse graduates. Jami-Sue Coleman, MS, RN, HSA, MBA, CCM, CNE, CPN will serve as program director. Over the course of three-years, the program aims to recruit 86 nurses and improve retention rates among nursing graduates. Saint Mary’s Foundation was awarded a Health Resources and Services Administration grant, which will partially fund the program.

A nursing educator and professional for over 20 years, Coleman has dedicated her career to enhancing learning opportunities and professional development for nursing students and graduates. After earning her master’s degree in nursing at the University of Nevada, Reno, Coleman taught pediatric nursing for three-years at Western Nevada College. Since this time, she has earned a master’s in Health Services Administration and Business Administration from the University of Saint Francis in Joliet, Ill. Currently, Coleman is pursuing her Ph.D. in nursing education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and serves as adjunct faculty at Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) and the University of Nevada, Reno.

Prior to being named director of the TPP nursing program, Coleman served as unit supervisor for pediatrics at Saint Mary’s. In her new role, Coleman will be responsible for the active recruitment and placement of nursing graduates. She will also work closely with TMCC to develop curriculum and learning opportunities for nurses accepted into the program. Coleman is an active member of the American Nurses Association, Society of Pediatric Nurses, Nevada Organization for Nurse Leaders and National Nursing Staff Development Organization.
