SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE
Renown was the only healthcare provider in northern Nevada to receive the distinction
National Research Corporation (NRC) awarded Renown Health with the 2011 Consumer Choice Award. Renown Health has won this award the past eight years in a row for northern Nevada, which is every year that NRC has surveyed here. NRC rated Renown Health as a top hospital for 2011 based on four essential consumer metrics: best overall quality, best image and reputation, best doctors and best nurses.
Renown was the only healthcare provider in northern Nevada to receive the distinction. Other winners were listed in the Oct. 17 issue of “Modern Healthcare Magazine.” Some of those major healthcare centers awarded the recognition include Johns Hopkins, Baltimore, Md.; Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Min.; UC Davis Medical Center, Sacramento, Calif. and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, Calif. “This award is particularly significant because it not only reaffirms Renown Health’s position as the leader in quality healthcare in northern Nevada; but it also demonstrates that we have earned the trust and loyalty of the community,” said Jim Miller, Renown Health president and chief executive officer. “The dedication of the employees, physicians and volunteers throughout our organization are the ones who really deserve this credit, and it is a pleasure to honor them through the eyes of their patients and their neighbors.”
The award identifies hospitals which healthcare consumers have chosen for the highest quality and image in more than 250 markets across the country surveyed by Ticker, the largest online healthcare survey in the US that poll more than 270,000 consumers annually. For the past 15 years, Consumer Choice has helped embody millions of local consumer perspectives on which hospital is the very best.
The award is given after the NRC does an annual study of 300 markets across the country. Consumers are asked more than 20 questions regarding healthcare in their communities. Four of the questions from the survey are rolled up into the results for the Consumer Choice Award. The questions probed consumers’ thoughts on the best hospital in the area for doctors, nurses, overall quality, and image and reputation.
Each year, the NRC honors those hospitals that people rate as having the best quality and image, based on a nationally syndicated NRC Healthcare Market Guide study of more than 250,000 households representing 450,000 consumers in 48 states and the District of Columbia.
The 2010/11 Healthcare Market Guide Ticker is the nation’s largest and most comprehensive study of its kind. No other study used to measure hospital performance and preferences contains more consumer responses than NRC’s study. The study has a margin of error of + or – 0.2 percent at a national level. Co-winners are named when scores fall within the statistical margin of error for a given market.
