SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE
The Democratic Party of Washoe County (WashoeDEMS) elected a new 2011-2013 Executive Board at their Central Committee meeting Tuesday.
Newly elected Chair Dorie Guy succeeds Chip Evans. Guy was vice chair during Evans’ term, 2009-2011.
“I feel she is a great asset to the Democratic Party,” said Evans. “She will definitely take the party in the right direction.”
The new board also includes First Vice Chair Rudy Viola, an active United Auto Workers leader. Second Vice Chair Xiomara Rodriguez is active in the Democratic Party and Latino community. Treasurer Laurie Haley is a long-time volunteer and former treasurer of Jill Derby’s 2008 campaign. Secretary Janet Langford Gray is an Organizing for America member and Cold Springs community activist.
“I will enjoy working with the new executive board,” said Guy. “This is a crucial time due to the tough issues facing Nevada, and we need to put our best foot forward.”
Guy continued, “We will be preparing for the next Presidential, Senatorial and Congressional races to ensure a good future for the citizens of Washoe County.”
The executive board is responsible for encouraging and facilitating the participation of Democrats in party activities, recruiting and assisting members to seek public office, supporting Democrats in elected offices and advancing the principles and positions of the Democratic Party.
