SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE
Saint Mary’s is pleased to announce the most recent winners for the Quality in Education Awards, a partnership with the Washoe County School District and KOLO TV Channel 8. The February 2011 winners are Sharon Lieberstein, assistant principal at Reed High School, and Steven Kish, student at Galena High School. Both individuals demonstrated their dedication to enhancing the quality of education in our community.
Sharon Lieberstein, assistant principal at Reed High School, is highly dedicated to improving the lives of students and faculty at Reed High School. Sharon instituted a Positive Behavior Support program at her school, which became an opportunity to reward students’ positive behavior. She also works closely with faculty to develop strategies to deliver the best instruction methods. In addition to her role at Reed High School, Sharon serves on a number of community boards including Senior Center/RSVP, volunteers for the Committee to Aid Abused Women, and is a board member for Washoe At-Risk Task Force, to name a few.
Steven Kish, a junior at Galena High School, has exemplified hard work and leadership since beginning high school. He quickly joined the Speech and Debate team after discovering his passion for public speaking. Although the team began with few members and no advisor, Steven turned to his own means and began recruitment efforts to build a larger team. The newly revitalized team now has eight members and Steven expects those numbers to increase next year.
In addition to his efforts at the high school, Steven shares his excitement for debate with local middle school students, encouraging them to enhance their public speaking and debate skills.
“Saint Mary’s and the WCSD share a passion for providing quality programs to our local community. Through this program we are able to honor individuals who also share this passion and show outstanding effort and leadership,” said Mike Uboldi, president and CEO of Saint Mary’s Network. “We are committed to improving education in our state and will continue to actively work with the school district as a partner organization.”
The Saint Mary’s Quality in Education Awards is a local partnership between Saint Mary’s, the WCSD, and KOLO-TV Channel 8 to recognize the efforts of WCSD employees and students who have gone above and beyond to improve the quality of education in our community.
