Local mint to strike first Lyon County commemorative medallion March 22

Who: Gov. Brian Sandoval, U.S. Congressman Dean Heller, Lyon County commissioners and officials, Nevada Assemblyman Tom Grady and executives of Northwest Territorial Mint and Medallic Art Company, as well as representatives from the offices of U.S. Senators Harry Reid and John Ensign.

What: Honorable guests will gather at Northwest Territorial Mint in Dayton to mark the first strike of the Lyon County sesquicentennial commemorative medallion. The governor and Congressman Heller will offer brief opening remarks.

When: Noon

Where: Northwest Territorial Mint/Medallic Art Company — 80 E. Airpark Vista Blvd., Dayton

Why: County officials and the sesquicentennial committee commissioned the anniversary medallions to raise funds for a county-wide community picnic at Lake Lahontan in August to celebrate the 150-year history of the county. Northwest Territorial Mint will be minting the medallions in antique bronze and copper, as well as creating a 0.999-ounce silver medallion that comes with a certificate of authenticity.
