SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE
Despite continued economic concerns, United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) has reported that it reached 102 percent of its annual giving campaign goal of $1.7 million that ran from Feb. 28, 2010 until Feb. 27, 2011.
“First of all, we would like to thank the generosity of those in northern Nevada and the Lake Tahoe Basin who have given and continue to give to UWNNS,” said Karen Barsell, chief executive officer and president of UWNNS. “Our community is made of caring people who understand the importance of United Way, our programs and our partner agencies. It is because of them we are going to be able to help create lasting change in our community.”
The top 10 companies who participated in the employee giving campaign to help reach this goal include: AT&T, GE Energy, JCPenney (stores and logistics center), John Ascuaga’s Nugget, NV Energy, Southwest Gas Corporation, United Parcel Service, US Bank, Washoe County Employees and Wells Fargo Bank. These companies’ total employee and corporate contributions comprised nearly $900,000 of the $1.7 million.
“In this uncertain economy, United Way and our partner agencies face tough challenges in providing for the needs of its clients,” said Paul Dugan, chair of the UWNNS Board of Directors. “We have received some very generous donations from businesses and individuals and it is heartwarming to see that those who are able to give are continuing to help their neighbors.”
