harryreid1-150x150-7877647-8524052WASHINGTON, D.C.—Sen. Harry Reid today announced a $3,570,240 Department of Transportation grant for safety improvements to two runways at the Reno-Stead Airport. The project will create 30 construction jobs.

The grant will improve sightlines for pilots as well as adding safety zones and improving lighting on Runways 14-32 and 8-26. Reno-Stead is the general aviation airport for Northern Nevada and is home to the National Championship Air Races. More than 200 aircraft including firefighting planes and Nevada Army National Guard helicopters are based out of Reno-Stead.

“When it comes to aviation, nothing is more important than safety,” said Reid. “Improving the safety of this airport helps to keep Nevada safe, creating a better airport for critical firefighting and national security. Because of this funding 30 Nevadans will be put back to work supporting the general aviation industry that in turn bolsters tourism and creates even more jobs in Nevada.”
