CARSON CITY — Governor Jim Gibbons today signed SB5, known as the “Jobs Bill”. The new law will create up to 1000 new jobs by funding numerous “shovel-ready” road projects around the state. Money for the projects will come from leveraging already existing taxes to fund revenue bonds.
“My priorities are creating jobs and bringing more tourists to Nevada,” Governor Jim Gibbons said, “This bill will create new jobs and will prepare our transportation infrastructure for the economic recovery.”
“With 187,000 Nevadans unemployed, I am doing everything in my power to end the misery for their families,” Gibbons said, “This Jobs Bill is just a small step, but it is a step in the right direction.”
Funds for the Jobs Bill are mainly derived from bonding existing fuel taxes and other existing taxes approved by voters in 2002.
