The RSCVA’s Adventure Blog gives some mouth-watering reasons to visit the Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off.

The event this year will be Sept. 2-7 (Labor Day weekend) at Victorian Square in Sparks. According to the blog,  nearly 500,000 visitors will consume 100 tons of ribs and some of the world’s best rib cookers compete for a cash purse in the thousands and the title of “Best of the West.”

Professional eaters, including three-time defending champion Joey Chestnut, will participate in the 4th Annual World Rib Eating Competition Sept. 2. Last year Chestnut, the world’s No.1-ranked eater, consumed 9.8 pounds of rib meat in 12 minutes and set a new world record.

The entertainment this year will include the Saddle Tramps, Hot Club of Cowtown, Restless Heart, The Fixx, Jonny Lang and the Iguanas and other bands. Visit the Nugget Web site for details.
