Food and beverage icons MaryBeth and Colin Smith committed to downtown Reno’s revitalization
MaryBeth and Chef Colin Smith, local owners of Smith and River and Roundabout Catering, have implemented a multitude of upgrades at Smith and River, an American Bistro located on the Truckee River in Reno’s Riverwalk district.
The Smiths acquired the restaurant location from Campo in 2022. The Roundabout company has had a long-standing reputation as a premier food and beverage company in the region for the last 17 years. The Smiths and the Roundabout family carry their values and philosophy throughout the restaurant as a locally owned and loved establishment.
Some of the upgrades and improvements that the Smiths have invested in include: All-new plateware and glassware; an espresso machine featuring locally owned Alpen Sierra coffee; leather and upholstered chairs; large wooden farm-style tables; contemporary interior lamps; elegant wall and shelf decor; living plants inside and outside featuring herbs and flowers native to the area; privacy curtains for the bead room for events and parties; a hand-crafted coat rack to accompany its coat check system; elevated menu books and covers; and tall green votives for patio tables. A chef’s table also lets guests in on an intimate and personalized experience with an exclusive look at the creative culinary process from either Chef Smith or executive chef Chris Lott.
“We are thrilled to present our evolution of Smith and River to our guests,” said MaryBeth Smith, owner, Smith and River. “Our goal was to create a space that feels as welcoming as the meals we serve. We wanted every detail, from the lighting to the seating, to bring comfort and style, making our guests feel like family. With these upgrades, we’re not just serving food—we’re offering an elevated experience that our guests have come to know and love.”
The seasonal fall menu showcases some of Chef Colin’s signature dishes such as chicken piccata, grilled angus burger, braised short rib and flat iron steak. Guests can look forward to Smith and River’s table-side service featuring a winter kale salad with garlic, lemon vinaigrette, asiago and ancient grain sourdough crisp; jambalaya with blackened jumbo shrimp, grilled andouille and roasted corn broth; and cacio e pepe with house-made linguine, butter and pecorino.
“We’re bringing the flavors of the season’s harvest with our new menu,” said Colin Smith, owner-chef, Smith and River. “We’ve crafted dishes that celebrate autumn’s richness and warmth, using ingredients such as butternut squash, autumnal spices and roasted fruits and vegetables. With our exciting table-side service, our guests can enjoy a more personal connection to the food and experience the magic of these flavors up close.”
