Get ready for a smashing good time. New business iSmash offers a trio of fun activities for kids as young as three. The newest addition to The Outlets at Legends opened on Friday, Aug. 23. It is part rage room, part axe throwing and part blacklight paint splatter.
Local franchisees Shivam and Preet Shah purchased the Sparks location from the iSmash parent company, which started in Rochester, New York. It was the first iSmash location in Nevada (although Las Vegas opened its own the next day).
While other axe-throwing and rage room locations exist in the greater Reno-Sparks area, iSmash’s family atmosphere sets it apart. There is no bar, which means those younger than 21 can visit, and the rest of the age limits are on the lower side.
For example, kids as young as three can sign up for the blacklight paint splatter experience, in which they don protective ponchos before throwing brightly colored paints all over the room, both at the walls and each other.
For those a bit older, the rage room is open to kids ages eight and older. Here, you’ll put on protective gear and then take turns throwing ceramic coffee mugs at the smash wall, bashing electronics with baseball bats and sending dishes soaring across the room with a sledgehammer.
Last up are the digitized axe-throwing bays for kids ages 13 and older. There are four bays for families to use, taking turns playing games like Zombie Hunter, Battleship and Tic-Tac-Toe. Everything is digitized, so scoring is fair and easy to track, and there are two different axe weights available to toss.
Every experience starts with a safety briefing and demonstration; separate rooms are available for groups to prepare. In addition to the four axe-throwing bays, multiple rage rooms in small and large sizes and a couple of paint splatter rooms are set up.
There is even a party room for those who choose to host an event at iSmash, and the team can bring pizza for those who want it.
While the space’s functionality draws people in, iSmash’s owners didn’t skimp on the decorations. Upon walking in, a large iSmash/Reno mural takes over the entrance wall, allowing an excellent spot to snap group photos. However, many of the rooms have their own graffiti-style murals, all painted by local artist Chris Kepley (@chriskepley.art).
There are plenty of package options to customize your visit, whether you want to attend one event or combine all three. Plus, you can add fun extras like canvases to decorate in the splatter room and take home as a souvenir, powder bombs and car windshield upgrades for the rage room.
Remember, safety is a priority when handing heavy tools over to kids, and closed-toe shoes are a must—no Crocs.
