Five events to check out: So much Christmas everywhere

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

We’re diving headlong into Christmas with a roundup of events that just might put the jingle in the jangle of even the most grinch-like of our readers. And for those who are firmly in the anti-Christmas camp, check out our event calendar for plenty of non-holiday events.

  1. Not sure if you’ve heard, but Reno’s Santa Crawl is kind of a big deal. Organizers are expecting even more revelers this year—some 12,000 people dressed as Santa, sexy Santa, elves and sexy elves. Mark the center square on your Santa Crawl bingo card if you catch sight of the rare sexy reindeer. It goes down Saturday night at venues throughout downtown.
  2. UNR’s DeLaMare Science and Engineering Library opens up Tuesday for a DIY Layered Holiday Ornaments workshop. Participants will choose designs to be cut on the library’s laser cutter, then decorate their ornament.
  3. For the holiday sophisticate, Artown continues its tradition of off-season performances with Pink Martini featuring founding vocalist China Forbes. The group performs Thursday at Grand Sierra’s theater.
  4. Roadkill and romance are on stage at Restless Artists Theatre Company with “Deer,” premiering on Friday. The grisly dark comedy, about a couple whose weekend getaway to the Poconos is crashed by a bloody and lifeless deer, might be the perfect intermission from relentless holiday cheer.
  5. Picture it, Sicily, 1922. Sorry, skip ahead. Picture it, Miami, 1985. Four friends celebrate the holidays with all the sass and cheesecake one can fit on stage. Join Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sofia for The Golden Girls: Holiday Extravaganza at Good Luck Macbeth.

BONUS: Even more Christmas theater

  • Those who love candy, candy corn, candy canes and syrup will want to get tickets to Elf the Musical on a three-day run at TheatreWorks of Northern Nevada.
  • The holiday classic A Christmas Carol is on stage at Brüka Theatre through Dec. 18. This version of Dickens’ novela is adapted for a three-person cast.
  • Mother Ginger, sugar plum fairies and dancing mice join Clara and the Prince for A.V.A. Ballet’s annual production of The Nutcracker. The performances are set to live music performed by the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra.
