Reno Police Chief Jason Soto is being considered to replace, in the interim, outgoing City Manager Sabra Newby. Naming him to the temporary position is on the agenda for Wednesday’s Reno City Council meeting.

His name was floated as a temporary replacement for the position at a recent meeting by Councilmember Jenny Brekhus.

Soto said he will accept the placement if approved by the council.

“If nothing changes, I will most likely accept to help our city through COVID-19 during the next six months or so,” he said.

An acting police chief would need to be put in his position. Soto said any one of his administrative team would be a good choice.

Newby announced her exit from Reno after just under three years in her position.
