With TEDxUniversityofNevada 2020 less than a month away, event speakers spent Friday practicing their talks on stage in front of a small audience. Attorney Marilyn York and undergraduate student Jonah Yoelin were rehearsing their talks when ThisisReno arrived.
The audience, comprised of community members and UNR faculty, gave feedback on everything from the length of speeches and tone, to hand position, pacing, and more. Audience members helped speakers cut down their speeches to match their allotted time, making sure they were concise without losing impact.
Speakers would recite sections of their speeches adjusting phrasing and motions with audience suggestion. Bret Simmons, Ph.D., who holds the event license and spoke at the first TEDxUniversityofNevada in 2013, also gave advice to new speakers about the difference between the live audience and those viewing the talks from home.
TEDxUniversityofNevada is Saturday, Feb. 29 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. More than 20 speakers and performers are on this year’s agenda. For details or tickets visit https://tedxuniversityofnevada.org/
