Local seniors who passed the age of 90 were celebrated yesterday at a Reno Housing Authority seniors complex. Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve proclaimed the day, “Ella Gimblin Day” in honor of Gimblin’s upcoming 100th birthday.
“We cherish our older residents,” said RHA Executive Director Amy Jones. “These people all lived through the Great Depression. They’ve raised families and led productive lives. We love getting them together to share stories and fellowship. And, of course, birthday cake!”
The annual event recognizes seniors age 90 or older. The seniors celebrated with a game of seated bowling — Gimblin bowled a strike — and enjoyed lunch and a birthday cake.
