Different types of sunflowers, along with a variety of vegetables are available for picking now during the second annual “Summer of Sunflowers” event at Ferrari Farms, 4701 Mill Street.
Fields are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. The public can walk the paths and pick their own flowers and summer vegetables, which include squash, potatoes, cucumbers and peppers. Bringing one’s own gardening tools is optional. No entrance fee is charged.
“We do this with an honor system payment where people can stop anytime between those hours and leave money for what they take in a designated payment box,” said Petra Bartella, Ferrari Farms operations manager and event coordinator. “We hope to have them open for another week, maybe two.”
Established in 1913, Ferrari Farms has long been known for its fall festival, which consists of a pumpkin patch, corn maze, hay rides and zombie hunt. Fall activities are scheduled to start Sept. 29 and continue through Halloween. Hours then are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
