The Sierra Nevada Concrete Association this week announced an advertising campaign to increase the use of concrete for road projects. The group is calling its SmartRoadsNV campaign a more sustainable approach to road construction.
“SmartRoadsNV launched a campaign … to shed light on the need to get more from our road tax dollars by finding sustainable solutions that reduce the need for constant road maintenance and traveler headaches,” the group said in a statement to the news media. “Both concrete and asphalt pavements should be considered for all road projects through an Alternate Design/Alternate Bidding (AD/AB) program.
“This practice requires equivalent ‘apples-to-apples’ designs for proposed projects for all pavement types and a life-cycle cost analysis to determine the best value for taxpayers.”
The group said that its goal is to increase competition and transparency for road projects while taking aim particularly at the Washoe County Regional Transportation Commission and its Virginia Street road improvements through Midtown.
