The sixth annual Summer Salute Car Show took place this past Saturday under rainy skies at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. Hosted by Classic Chevys Reno, the event benefitted Honor Flight Nevada and Veterans Guest House.

Prize-winning cars received custom-made trophies created by Joel Edwards, who combined automotive and military elements into the trophy design.

The cold, wet weather had an undeniable impact on the event forcing some car owners to seek shelter from the rain inside their vehicles. When the rain did relent, owners quickly began removing the residual moisture to fend off water spots. Other owners sheltered their vehicles with shade structures, and in one instance encased the vehicle in a plastic wrap.

Reno Veterans Photo Group, whose mission is “Improving veterans quality of life through the arts,” made their first public showing at the event. The group is looking to expand and attract younger veterans. Their photography ranged from black and white landscapes to portraiture.
