The Prater Fire burned about 3,000 acres of grass and brush on the hills east of Sparks Sunday, Aug. 6, according to the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. The fire, potentially sparked by lightning seen in the area, threatened some homes as well as Northern Nevada Medical Center. Both ground and air crews responded to quickly redirect flames away from structures.
