A number of candidates were up for a trustee position on the Washoe County School District (WCSD) Board of Trustees, and today the board voted unanimously to appoint Ryan Gonda to the position. He represents District C and will serve until December 2016.
“I am overwhelmed and humbled by your trust in me,” Gonda said. “I hope to improve the communication and trust that District C constituents have during the time I am serving.”
Voters will select a candidate during the November election to complete the remaining two years of Gonda’s term. He said that he will not run for the seat, according to WCSD spokesperson Vickie Campbell (statement added at 4:53 pm.)
“We are so pleased to welcome Ryan Gonda to the Board of Trustees, and eager to move forward with the important work at hand,” said Board President Dr. Angie Taylor. “It is so important to bring a new perspective and a fresh voice to our Board, and all of us are excited to bring such a dedicated professional to the team.”
Gonda serves as a program attorney at the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. He is member of the board of directors for Safe Embrace, a local organization that provides services for survivors of domestic violence.
He received his law degree from the Mississippi College School of Law in 2011. Gonda succeeds Nick Smith, who resigned his seat amidst allegations of sexual misconduct while working as a Sizzler manager.
