High Desert Montessori Charter School plans to acquire an adjacent piece of property to expand and cleared its first hurdle Wednesday.
The City Council voted unanimously to rezone a parcel on the southeast corner of Orovada Street and Silverada Boulevard to multifamily from professional office. Reno Municipal Code says schools are among uses allowed in a multifamily zone.
The 1.75-acre tract is vacant and owned by the Karadanis Family Trust. A “for sale” sign is on the property. It’s assessed value is $146,743.
High Desert Montessori staff addressed the Reno City Planning Commission last month, which unanimously recommended the City Council approve the zone change.
The school serves children from infancy though middle school.
