The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is starting reconstruction of Nugget Avenue in Sparks Monday, March 21, 2016.

The project is a one mile section of road between Pyramid Way and McCarran Boulevard. The road will be reduced to one lane during construction.

“Eastbound travel on Nugget Avenue will be closed for the duration of the project while westbound travel will remain open. Motorists can access Nugget Avenue at the I-80 East McCarran exit 19 and travel westbound to their destination. Business access will always be available. Lane closures are scheduled to last through the end of spring,” NDOT said in a statement.

The project, reconstructing and repaving the road, is expected to be completed in late summer.

According to NDOT, “the approximately one-mile section of roadway east of the Nugget Casino Resort will be completely reconstructed and repaved, with sixteen inches of old roadbed pulverized. Some of the old roadbed material will then be recycled, mixed with cement and incorporated into the new road. Six inches of new asphalt will top the roadbed, providing a sturdy and durable roadway surface, particularly important for the heavy truck traffic traveling on the frontage road. Roadway curb and gutters will also be replaced.”

Granite Construction is working on the project.
