Saturday October 24th will be the perfect day for anyone who has ever wanted to take part in a zombie horde, and Reno is the perfect place for it. Nearly 20,000 zombies are expected to collect in downtown to crawl, run and dance as the Reno Zombie Crawl arrives for the 8th year in a row.
Starting with the No-Brainer all-zombie run at 5pm, tons of the undead will run, walk or shuffle chasing a human survivor down Virginia Street under the Reno Arch and follow a spooky trail along the Truckee River for a full five kilometer fun run.
After the decomposing participants return to the Reno Arch, thousands of people will gather to watch and participate in Thriller Under the Arch, a free, all-ages flash-mob style performance of Michael Jackson’s horror-pop hit, Thriller. Once the dance is over, participants will pose for a group photo and at 8pm the main event begins.
This year’s Reno Zombie Crawl features glow-in-the-dark cups and a chance to win $1,000 in the ZomBacardi selfie scavenger hunt. Participants to the crawl will be able to cash in on taking selfies at specific locations throughout the night, giving everyone a great reason to check out bars they never have before.
Highlights for this year’s crawl include a free concert at Cargo with the McDonald’s-themed Black Sabbath cover band, Mac Sabbath, a silent zombie disco at newly opened Mellow Fellow, and discounts for crawlers at the Slaughterhouse haunted house at the Freight House District inside Aces Ballpark.
In addition, tons of entertainment will be happening on 4th Street during the crawl as new venues like the Psychedelic Ballroom & Juke Joint will be hosting a concert, Studio on 4th will be host to a burlesque show and the Morris Burner Hotel will showcase art cars and an outside bar.
Zombie photo booths, zombie karaoke and zombie bowling will be on this year’s list of must-do events on the crawl, as well as great giveaways like shot glasses and glow necklaces. On Sunday morning, Mellow Fellow will be serving up brunch for all the survivors starting at 8am.
As in years past, crawlers will enjoy $3 beer specials and $3 drink specials, as well as no cover and plenty of different costume contests. Participants are encouraged to stay downtown with special rates at the most popular hotels. Crawl cups are available now at Junkee Clothing Exchange at 960 South Virginia Street, as well as other retail shops in Reno and Carson and all participating bars. A portion of the proceeds will go toward Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful. Information on everything can be found at www.crawlereno.com.
