A Reno man was sentenced today to two life sentences for two counts of lewdness with a child under 14.
Marcos Martin-Montoya, 35, plead guilty earlier this year to the charges. He was arrested in May.
“Each count carries a penalty of life in prison with the possibility of parole beginning when a minimum of 10 years has been served,” said Washoe County D.A. Chris Hicks in an announcement today. “The sentences handed down today are consecutive guaranteeing that the very earliest Martin-Montoya could be eligible for release would be after he has served 20 years.”
Law enforcement received a report May 8, 2015 of inappropriate touching involving a 12-year-old girl. An investigation found that the child had been sexually abused by Martin-Montoya since 2009.
District Attorney Chris Hicks praised law enforcement and child advocates who worked on the case: “The work done by this exceptional team of prosecutors, detectives and child advocacy professionals continues to better serve our community’s most vulnerable victims of crime.”
