On Thursday, September 24 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., the Northern Nevada Literacy Council (NNLC) will hold its annual fundraising spelling bee, Spellbinder.
The event will be at the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows.
“Spellbinder is a corporate team spelling bee, as well as an annual fundraising event that includes terrific silent and live auctions that will assist NNLC in continuing to provide free GED prep classes and ESL to adult learners who want to change their lives,” the Council said in an announcement. “With a Dr. Seuss theme, this year’s Spellbinder promises to be even more fun than ever.”
NNLC provides resources to school drop-outs by helping to educate them to pass the GED exam.
“To date, hundreds of students have successfully obtained their diplomas with the help of NNLC,” said Executive Director Susan Robinson. “ These NNLC students are now employed, in better paying jobs, attending college and/or pursuing a career in the trades. The doors of opportunity are now wide open for them!”

NNLC is a community-based non-profit.
