The Great Reno Balloon Race (GRBR) is scheduled this year for Friday, September 11 through Sunday, September 13, 2015.
The event is boasting new balloon shapes with Master Yoda and a re-appearance of Darth Vader, as well as a September 11 tribute with the Air National Guard participating in mass ascension. An Elvis-themed balloon is also scheduled to appear.
“Over the last 33 years, the Great Reno Balloon Race has become an annual tradition for many families and friends,” said Executive Director Pete Copeland. “The event draws attendees from across the world to participate both in flight and as spectators. The Great Reno Balloon Race is the only event in the world where attendees can see a number of hot-air balloons take part in early morning shows for free, which we’re able to accommodate due to sponsorship support.”
GRBR begins at 5:15 a.m. on Friday with a glow show where about 20 hot-air balloons will glow, followed by the 9/11 tribute. The Washoe County School District is then bringing 900 students for a tissue paper launch and to learn about hot-air balloons.
