Shortly after 3 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2015 the Reno Police Department (RPD) responded to a report of a pedestrian who was pinned under an RTC bus at Ninth Street and Dolomite.

RPD officers arrived and located a 59-year-old male whose leg was trapped under the rear wheels of the bus.

The Reno Fire Department and REMSA also responded to remove the pedestrian out from under the bus. He was transported to a local hospital where he later passed died.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian exited the RTC bus and began walking east along the sidewalk to the north edge of 9th Street.

As the driver of the RTC bus began to pull away from the curb, the pedestrian stepped off the edge of the curb and fell into the side of the bus where his leg became trapped under the right rear wheel.

The pedestrian’s alcohol level may have been a contributing factor to this accident, according to RPD. He has been identified as Sun Valley resident, 60-year-old Andrew Matschke.

RTC and the bus driver are cooperating in the investigation.
