Shortly after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, an SUV exited northbound U.S. 395 onto Red Rock Road and did not stop at a stop sign, according to the Reno Police Department (RPD).

The vehicle was struck by another vehicle traveling south on Red Rock Road. The SUV flipped, ejecting a female passenger and trapping the male driver.

The male SUV driver was removed by Reno Fire Department personnel, and he and the driver and passenger of the other vehicle were transported to a local hospital, each with non-life threatening injuries.

The female passenger who was ejected from the SUV was pronounced dead on scene. She has been identified as 50-year-old Washoe County resident Clara Williams.

RPD’s Traffic Division Major Accident Investigation Team detectives and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident.

A preliminary investigation shows that vehicle speed and alcohol are likely contributing factors in this crash, according to the RPD. Charges may be filed against the SUV driver.
