NEW WASHOE CITY – Washoe Lake State Park is offering a drought-related program over Memorial Day weekend.
Participants will learn the reason why Washoe Lake is dry.
Discussion will include the dynamics of Washoe Lake, the rain shadow effect and the water cycle. There will be a 15-minute walk onto the dry lakebed.
Children can participate in making bracelets with beads that represent the water cycle: evaporation, precipitation and condensation.
WHEN: Saturday, May 23, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Sunday, May 24, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The event is open to the public and is free of charge; however, there is an entrance fee into the park of $7 per vehicle (cash or check). Nevada residents receive a $2 discount. Program schedules are subject to change due to weather and staffing.
Washoe State Park is located at 4855 Eastlake Boulevard. Take the Eastlake Boulevard Exit #44 from I-580.
