May 2: Beginner’s Guide to Bountiful Tomatoes and Their Cousins

Join Plant Doctor and horticulturist Jon Bruyn to learn how easy it is to successfully grow and enjoy (harvest) tomatoes and other complementary warm season vegetables in the high desert. He’ll discuss varieties and proper care throughout the season. This presentation is good for the beginner to advanced gardener with many tips that you will find useful.

May 16: Iris – A High Desert Perennial Addiction Join High Desert Iris Society members, master gardeners and iris judges to understand more about this diverse and colorful, tough perennial for our area–and the addiction to iris! Discover everything from what a rhizome is to planting, bloom time, soil, watering, dividing and showing your favorite blooms.

Who knew that iris came in so many beautiful varieties and colors? And they love the high desert! A must see. Then come back in July to purchase your favorites during the High Desert Iris Society Sale at Moana Nursery on July 25 & 26.

May 27: 6:00 PM Reno Rose Society Hosts Garden Clean Up & Safety Seminar

All are welcome & encouraged to attend

Fertilizer and pesticide safety and ways to prevent injuries while in the garden will be discussed. Bring any unwanted/unusable insecticides, weed killers, rodent bait and other pesticides for disposal. Bret Allen from the State of Nevada Agriculture Dept. will be on hand to collect them.

May 30: Everyone Loves a Well-Dressed Flower!

Flower Prep Seminar & Arrangement Workshop – Sponsored by Reno Rose Society.

Learn everything you need to know to prepare flowers from your garden for display in your own home as well as for Moana Nursery’s Biggest Little Flower Show on June 13, 2015. We’ll show you how easy it is enter by explaining how to interpret a schedule, select your flowers, make entry tags and create better specimen entries and floral arrangements. Program is offered at two times:

10 AM – 11 AM: Flower Prep, Show Schedule Interpretation & Accurate Entry Tags Seminar

11 AM- 12 PM: Western-style Flower Arranging Workshop – Material Cost $9

1 PM – 2 PM: Flower Prep, Show Schedule Interpretation & Accurate Entry Tags Seminar

2 PM – 3 PM: Western-style Flower Arranging Workshop – Material Cost $9

Must reserve and pay for hands on floral arranging workshop in advance. Class size is limited to 10, though others may audit for free. Bring to the seminar by-pass pruners, small towel and bucket. Register & pay in person with the Moana Lane cashier or call 825-0600 by Wednesday, May 27.

All seminars are free and held at Moana Nursery, 1190 W. Moana Lane in our Landscape and Design Center and begin at 10:00 AM, unless otherwise stated. They usually last one hour.
