CARSON CITY — A transfer of public lands from the Bureau of Land Management to Carson City is expected to be completed by the end of May 2015.

About 5,400 acres will be included in the transfer and are located throughout Carson City. The lands include the Prison Hill Recreation Area, Silver Saddle Ranch, land in the Goni Canyon area and parcels near Carson City’s Landfill.

“We have a great relationship with Carson City and look forward to being a supportive partner as they work to implement their Master Plan in the area,” said Leon Thomas, Sierra Front field manager.

Prison Hill Recreation Area, Silver Saddle Ranch, and the Ambrose Carson River Natural Area have a conservation easement which limits development and protects the cultural resources and the open space of the properties.

“Carson City and the BLM have worked diligently over the past several years to achieve this land transfer and we are pleased it’s become reality. We look forward to celebrating with the community,” said Ann Bollinger, Carson City Open Space Administrator.
