VIRGINIA CITY — Historic Virginia City, Nev.’s biggest annual event of the year is all new for 2015. Having outgrown its current venue, the 56th annual International Camel and Ostrich Races, presented by Dolan Auto Group, is moving to the new Virginia City Arena & Fairgrounds in Virginia City, Sept. 11 – 13, 2015.
“We had a lot of good years in our old location, but it really wasn’t ideal for future growth and even safety concerns,” Deny Dotson, tourism director for Virginia City Tourism Commission, said. “With the increased demand we’ve seen in recent years, we knew we needed to look toward the future. This new venue is much larger and it’s flat – something that’s hard to come by in this town. Handicapped and families with strollers will find a huge difference from previous years. Our goal is to ensure a great day of camel, ostrich and zebra racing for all our attendees.”
The Virginia City Arena and Fairgrounds is located three blocks south east of the main C Street on F Street on a flat 15 acre parcel. The new venue features more accessibility, ease of access for attendees, better and more parking options, more racing value with a circular arena versus the horseshoe previously used, as well as improved handicapped and stroller access.
Tickets prices are as follows: General admission is $15 for Friday and Sunday and $18 on Saturday; VIP admission is $40 for Friday and Sunday and $50 on Saturday.
Additionally, In Arena tickets are available for $25 for Friday and Sunday and $30 for Saturday. For groups, Cabana’s are located right at the arena and pricing is $2,000 Friday and Sunday, and $2,500 for Saturday.
Tickets for the event are now on sale and can be purchased online at VCCamelRaces.com, where seating options and the venue layout are also available.
The International Camel & Ostrich Races, presented by Dolan Auto Group, is sponsored by Coors Light/Blue Moon, Reno Media Group, Virginia City’s Mustang Ranch Steakhouse, the Bucket of Blood Saloon and the Delta Saloon.
