atlantis_new_ext_lr-555x331-7268849-6701011Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, a TripAdvisor Greenleader Platinum award recipient, researches opportunities to reduce, reuse and recycle. Atlantis said it is committed to reducing the impact its operations have on the environment, while at the same time maintaining its level of service.

In order to lessen its carbon footprint, Atlantis has implemented a number of water- and energy-saving initiatives, including:

  • Replaced shower heads in 100% of guest rooms, saving over 1.7 million gallons of water a year. Not only are the new shower heads more water-efficient by reducing water output through pressure adjustment, they were also selected to positively enhance the guest experience.
  • Atlantis replaced its faucets across the property, reducing water flow from 2.0 GPM (gallons per minute) to an impressive 1.0 GPM. The faucets are on a timer for added water-saving.
  • Replaced toilets property-wide to water-efficient models, reducing gallons per flush from 2.5 to 1.5.
  • Wind sensors on the outdoor fountains send a signal that automatically reduces the pump pressure when the wind reaches a certain speed to minimize water waste.
  • The water in the indoor and outdoor fountains is recirculated.
  • Water is only served in restaurants by guest request.
  • Atlantis encourages its guests to participate in its green program, by choosing to not replace towels and linens daily.
  • New equipment is in the process of being installed in the laundry room and kitchens and is both energy and water efficient.
  • Replaced incandescent light bulbs with LEDs property-wide. Since 2005, Atlantis has saved over 6 million kilowatts/hour, and over the next five years, will reduce CO2 output by more than 22.8 tons.
  • Installed four electric car charging stations servicing electric and Tesla vehicles.
  • Utilizes a state-of-the-art ventilation system that allows engineering to control and monitor air circulation. In ideal weather conditions, the system brings in 100% fresh air.
  • Atlantis was the first to launch northern Nevada’s first casino organics recycling program, and implemented a single-stream recycling program to capture materials such as cardboard, paper, plastics, aluminum and steel cans.
  • An O2 Tim Burner Management System was installed on Atlantis’ largest boiler, reducing emissions.
  • Atlantis installed Variable Frequency Drives globally on air moving equipment, slowing down the fans to meet actual demand.
  • The Engineering Department is currently installing energy recovery equipment on air moving equipment to reduce energy and increase fresh air throughout the casino.

Atlantis said that it monitors its water and energy usage, and it works with utility companies to discover opportunities to conserve natural resources.
