April 11: Organic Vegetable Gardening Made Simple
Join Craig Frezzette, the only USDA Certified Organic urban farmer in the City of Reno. Craig owns and operates City Green Gardens, a “four season” operation growing organic products for local area restaurants. Learn as Craig shares some tips and techniques he uses for the basic steps of creating and tending an organic garden. From composting to living soil, seed starting to transplanting, season extending to pest management. Craig has over 20 years of growing organically in our arid high desert climate.
April 18: Northern Nevada Birds of Prey – Beauty and Balance Zachary Ormsby will showcase the beauty of birds of prey up close through his outstanding photography and his years of experience as a Field Biologist specializing in Raptors and Desert Ecosystems. He will discuss how vital birds of prey are in balancing rodent populations, as sensitive ecological barometers, and being a farmer’s best friend. This seminar is sure to be both informative and captivating. Don’t miss this one!
April 25: Pollinator Gardens to Attract Bees, Hummers and Butterflies
Lynda Nelson, a passionate educator of northern Nevadans for years on all things related to plants, will discuss the importance of having pollinator plants in your garden to provide a habitat for bees, hummers and butterflies to frequent, what plants comprise a typical pollinator garden and how to care for them. In addition, Lynda will share the latest research on the declining bee population which is actually making a comeback. For the last 15 minutes of the seminar, she will guide you through the garden center to see plants mentioned in her seminar.
Lynda is actively involved in Nevada Land Trust on Conservation and Restoration projects. Prior to these projects she served as Horticulturist of the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden for 16 years and the Planning Manager of Washoe County Regional Parks & Open Space for 6 years.
April 29: “Read Any Good Labels Lately?” Hosted by the Reno Rose Society
