People love Rancho San Rafael. It’s a little bit of a hidden gem not far from the University of Nevada, Reno. There’s a playground, walking trails, a museum, and more. It’s a great place to take the dogs on a warm spring day to let them burn off some of their energy.

The large open meadow at the southwestern end of the park has seen more usage than normal this winter, since it has been so unseasonably warm. With spring looming ever closer, the area is in need of a good grooming. The entrances to the pasture area could use some sprucing up as well.

“Rancho San Rafael is a beautiful and popular park in my district and it is everybody’s responsibility to make sure it stays that way,” said Washoe County Commission Vice-Chair Kitty Jung, District 3. “I call on the public to come out, pitch in and have some fun at one of the best places to enjoy the outdoors.”

The park’s rangers and the Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation have planned a morning of clean up followed by a guided hike around the area. The clean up begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by the hike at 11:30 a.m. Plastic bags, latex gloves, and other supplies will be provided. For more information, call Park Ranger Bob Holland (775) 785-4512 x102.
