March 3, 2014 — Extended Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno has launched a new series of fun spring break camps for kids in grades 6-8, modeled on its successful summer KIDS University format, with hands-on, age-appropriate classes designed by K-12 educators to engage young minds.
Called University Break Camps, the new series was developed by Extended Studies in partnership with the university’s College of Education and the Raggio Research Center for STEM Education. Future camps are also in the works for fall and winter breaks during the K-12 school year.
The new spring break camps are offered in two week long sessions, March 30-April 4 and April 6-10, 2015, on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, featuring cool class subjects incorporating the academic STEAM components ~ science, technology, engineering, arts and math. The weekly sessions run Monday–Friday from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. each day. Weekly topics and descriptions, complete registration information and a downloadable flier will be available soon at www.breakcamps.unr.edu .
Cost for each weeklong session is $375, which includes lunch each day; full payment is due upon registration. Registration for University Spring Break Camps, designed for kids in grades 6-8, will be available online 24/7 at www.breakcamps.unr.edu starting Monday, March 9 at 8 a.m. through Sunday, April 5. Early registration is encouraged as sessions can fill fast.
