Sierra Arts is presenting a pop-up exhibition of Jenny Valloric’s textiles. The installation will be on display starting March 16, concluding with a chance to meet the artist on March 21 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.. This event is free and open to the public. Wild River Grille will provide refreshments.
As an artist in residence at St. Mary’s Art and Retreat Center, Valloric finds that collaboration and conversation with fellow artists help shape and fuel her projects. International travel and impressive landscapes are also large influences on her work.
“Much of Jenny’s work has a topographical sense, and is influenced by the diverse land forms and environments in which she finds herself. Her weaving is created using natural dyes, which she extracts from the local flora. It has been wonderful watching the development of her new works in Nevada, during her Residency at St Mary’s Art Center, and how the context of High Mountain desert has stimulated her research and creative processes,” said St. Mary’s Executive Director, Frances Melhop.
Valloric is from Fort Collins, Colo. She received a bachelor of fine arts degree in textiles from Colorado State University. She has also received a bachelor of fine arts degree in sculpture from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. In addition, Valloric enjoys horticulture and travels as much as she can.
