Community Chest, Inc. (CCI) is hosting crossover country music performer Suzy Bogguss for its sixth annual “A Night to Imagine” benefit at 8 pm on Friday, April 10 inside the historic Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City.
When: Friday, April 10, 2015. Doors open at 7:15. Show begins at 8:00.
Where: Piper’s Opera House-12 North B St. Virginia City, 849440
With a handful of platinum and gold albums to her credit, Suzy Bogguss is one of country music’s most pristine and evocative vocalists. With the release of the Illinois native’s 1989 major label debut, Somewhere Between, Suzy became one of the key artists that defined those golden days of ’90s country.
Not only did she receive the “Top New Female Vocalist” award from the Academy of Country Music, she also scored a string of top 10 singles like “Outbound Plane,” “Drive South,” “Hey Cinderella,” “Letting Go” and “Aces.”
With her latest record, Lucky, released in 2014, Suzy reinterprets classic Merle Haggard songs from a female point of view.
“These are the songs that I related to, that I felt had a reason to sing,” she said. “They all had something that I could give them, whether it was a particular passion to a lyric or a melody. Every melody on this whole project is one that I just love as a singer.”
Tickets for this show are only $50 and are likely to sell out so it is advised that people buy their tickets early. Tickets may be purchased through CCI’s website at www.communitychestnevada.net or in person at Red Dog Saloon in Virginia City, Sundance Bookstore and The Melting Pot in Reno, and at both Comma Coffee and Benson’s Feed Store in Carson City.
For those who want to make an evening of it, Virginia City eateries like the Red Dog Saloon and Café del Rio have agreed to donate a portion of that evening’s sales to the benefit. For those wanting to stay overnight, the Silverland Hotel has a limited number of discounted rooms available.
