Reno may be known as the Biggest Little City in the World, but it should also be known as the Biggest Little (Foodie) City in the World. With dozens of top-notch restaurants throughout the city, it’s impossible to eat everywhere for every meal. Join Reno Yelpers and explore a galaxy of delicious food and drink from around the city.

Sponsored by Yelp Reno, this gastronomic event will bring together 15 of Reno’s best restaurants to share a journey through the science of food and how it’s made. Top chefs from around the city will be running interactive labs to teach guests about the magic of food, giving them tips and tricks to recreate the delicious sweet and savory treats at home.

This one of a kind event is for Yelp users only and there are a few requirements that must be met in order to participate. Yelp activity will be taken into account when tallying the final guest list for the event. Active Yelpers and those who use a real name and photo on their account will be given priority. While it’s important to register early if you’d like to attend, the time you register won’t necessarily guarantee you a spot on the guest list, especially as there will be limited space for many of the stations. The liquor will be flowing so the party’s 21+ only. It’s free to attend, but a $10 donation to the Discovery Museum is highly recommended.

There will be magic from Justin Impossible and music from various local DJs, who will keep the party going from start to finish. Start the evening at the interactive labs, learning everything from the science behind making classic cocktails to whether pasta is really just flour and eggs. Chef Mark Estee, the brains behind Campo and Reno Provisions, will be teaching the basics behind butchering meat, including where it comes from and how sausage becomes the delicious food we all know and love.

But wait! There’s more! Sample food and drinks from more than a dozen local restaurants, including Dough Catering, who will be talking about the science behind compression. Can you use a vacuum cleaner for more than just sucking up the dirt in your carpet? Atlantis Steakhouse will be using liquid nitrogen to make what they claim is the best ice cream ever. Homage Bakery will give you the ability to breathe like a dragon with their marshmallows frozen in liquid nitrogen – they’ll go great with that ice cream.

The Atlantis Bistro will be creating a cotton candy cocktail, putting a fun twist on their traditional cocktail. Go beyond the basics with Tahoe Moonshine and learn the fine art of distilling liquor. Beer and wine will also be available for those feeling less than adventurous.

If you’re planning to go:

When: Thursday, March 19 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Where: Terry Lee Wells Discovery Museum, 490 S. Center Street

Cost: Free, although $10 minimum donation to the museum is suggested
