hcc-meeting-one-300x79-8987049-8215041The monthly public meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties takes place at the Silver Springs Community Center at 9 a.m. on Thursday February 12.

Guest speakers during the breakfast meeting include staff from Community Chest and Lyon County Human Services who are implementing the Healthy Families America Home Visiting Program with families in Storey and Lyon communities. They will explain how the program works.

Other topics during the meeting include updates on the Health Services Hub developing in Storey/Lyon; a proposed expanded Cottage Food law for Nevada (the “Pickle Bill”); the Silver Stage Co-Op and its new Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Basket Club; the upcoming Remote Area Medical (RAM) events in Yerington and Carson City; the Lyon County Jail Diversion Program and regional Behavioral Health Task Force; and school and community gardens and hoop houses throughout the Lyon region.

Healthy Communities Coalition is composed of hundreds of community volunteers, a small staff, and dozens of federal, state, local and tribal group partners working together on a collaborative leadership agenda to increase community wellness in the Lyon and Storey regions. Miriam Hodgman is originally from San Francisco. She previously was the communications coordinator for the largest hunger-relief organization in Sonoma County, California. She has a bachelor’s degree in American history, with a minor in American Indian studies, from San Francisco State University, and has a master’s degree in public administration from Sonoma State University. She enjoys training a variety of martial arts.
