FAMILY STATEMENT:

“On the evening of November 8, 2014, our family suffered an unspeakable and unimaginable tragedy. Rob Deane, the father of Jacob, age 7, and Austin age 2, suffered a mental breakdown and took the lives of his sons and then his own.

As our family begins the lifelong process of grieving, we ask for privacy and prayers for our family, for Jacob and Austin, and for Rob. The coming days, weeks, and months will all present new challenges and we ask for your peaceful strength and support.

A service for the children will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 12:00 PM at South Reno Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Walton’s Funeral Home.”

RPD STATEMENT:

Over the last few days, members from the Reno Police Department have worked diligently on this tragic case. We have stayed in close contact with the family, providing them every available resource we have access to. Due to the nature of this incident, we are bound to maintain the integrity of the investigation and to respect the rights and privacy of the victims and the family.

We have received confirmation from the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office and, in consultation with the family, we can release the identities of the deceased family members as Jacob Deane, age 7, Austin Deane, age 2, and their father, Rob Deane, age 36.

We are treating this case as a homicide investigation. We are still in the process of gathering information on the case and trying to establish a timeline and history with the family leading up to the events on the evening of November 8, 2014. We will not be providing any other additional information until the case has been completed and finalized.

The Deane family will be issuing their own statement shortly. All of us ask that each of you in the media continue to respect the family’s wishes and their privacy as they work their way through the grieving process. We also encourage members of the community to continue to provide the Deane family with any support that you can to help them through this difficult time.
