When the first ever national comic convention rolls into Reno this month it will mark not only that the city has become an attractive destination for large events, but that we have also truly been noticed as the bar crawl capital.

On Thursday November 20, on the eve of the Wizard World Reno Comic Con, downtown will host a special edition bar crawl as an official kickoff for the convention that will offer participants extras like never before.

Comic Cons, or Comic Book Conventions, have grown in recent years into massive events drawing tens of thousands celebrating all of pop culture, giving participants the chance to meet movie stars, famous artists and other celebrities.

Wizard World, the largest and most successful comic con tour organization that produced a 40,000 person event in Sacramento this year, reached out to crawl organizers after learning Reno’s reputation for large scale bar crawls like the Reno Zombie Crawl and Superhero Crawl.

In case participants wonder why Reno needs another crawl, event organizers say that the benefits of working with an official comic con made the decision easy.

“This is a one-off special edition crawl,” says Ed Adkins, owner of Crawl Reno, “That means we’re not planning on it being an annual event yet, and the extras crawlers will receive are too amazing for us to pass up.”

Features for this crawl which have never been seen before include the chance to see and maybe even meet actors, celebrities and artists making appearances at the crawl, collectible artwork from a premiere comic artist commemorating the event for the first 300 attendees and the chance to win a VIP Wizard World Reno Comic Con package with Norman Reedus, star of the Walking Dead.

Along with the features exclusive to this crawl, organizers add that the Comic Con Crawl will include everything participants expect from events like the Superhero Crawl, such as tons of drink discounts, entrance into costume contests and no-cover at their favorite nightclubs and bars.

In order to participate, crawlers are directed to purchase a commemorative cup available now at Junkee Clothing Exchange at 960 South Virginia St in Reno. Cups will also be available on crawl night at the start bar Brew Brothers inside the Eldorado, but organizers suggest purchasing cups early in case the event sells out. Information and online cup sales are also available at www.renocomicconcrawl.com.
