The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) reminds residents that open burn season remains closed. Due to record levels of dryness and conditions which allow the potential for fire, the TMFPD has restrictions in place for any and all open burning in Washoe County for the season. TMFPD does not anticipate opening a burn period unless the area receives adequate moisture in the coming weeks.

TMFPD is not issuing any burn permits at this time. TMFPD makes the determination to open or close burning based on fuel moistures, relative humidity and predicted wind and weather for the area. Washoe County has experienced record dryness during these last few months, resulting in low fuel moistures and the increased potential for wildland fires. TMFPD would like to remind residents that when they are enjoying the outdoors and off-road experiences, to please remember to carry water and a shovel at all times and be extra cautious in the wildland areas.

Residents are reminded that even though open burning within the District is not allowed, they may still dispose of their yard debris at any County landfill. Residents who ignore the restrictions are subject to fines and being held financially responsible for any and all incidents as a result of open burning.

Residents may call the main TMFPD office at (775) 326-6000 with further questions.
