The Reno Sparks Corridor Business Association and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help in making Christmas a little brighter for children and seniors who live in Reno’s 4th, 5th and 6th Street “Corridor” by donating to the 17th annual Christmas on the Corridor.
Christmas on the Corridor started in 1996 as a simple opportunity to hand out cookies to a few hundred children and has grown into a huge annual community benefit. To help make this year’s event a success, donations of the following new items are needed:
- Coats, hats and gloves
- Backpacks and school supplies
- Toys of all kinds for all ages
- Games for teens and tweens, MP3 players, movie passes or electronics
- Monetary donations
- Shampoo, soap, toothpaste toothbrushes
- Books on CD, puzzles, paint by number sets, slippers, lap blankets and anything else that would be appreciated by seniors
The deadline for donations for this year’s Christmas on the Corridor is Dec. 17.
Donated items may be dropped off at the Sheriff’s Community Work Program Office at 350 S. Center St. (directly across from the downtown Reno Library) between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, contact Brooke Howard at (775) 785-4242.
Donated items will be distributed during the Christmas on the Corridor event on Saturday, Dec. 21.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Reno Sparks Corridor Business Association and their partners both public and private endeavor to bring Christmas to many children who would otherwise go without. They also sponsor families throughout the year providing food, clothing, everyday essentials and school supplies.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office celebrated 150 years of proud service and community partnership in 2011. Sheriff Michael Haley is the 25th person elected to serve as the sheriff of Washoe County. His office continues to be the only full service public safety agency operating within northern Nevada and is responsible for operating the consolidated detention facility, regional crime lab, Northern Nevada Counter Terrorism Center, Internet Crimes against Children Task Force, court security, service of civil process, traditional street patrols and Regional Animal Services.
