CIRCUS CIRCUS NEWS RELEASE

ccfood-bank-group-web-690x480-6536606-1076436Circus Circus Reno went above and beyond showing the community how fearless the property and employees are. A group of Circus Circus Reno employees visited the Food Bank of Northern Nevada on Oct. 23 where they boxed over 3,000 pounds of bread and desserts and bagged over 6,000 pounds of potatoes for hungry families in the area, bringing the total amount of food packed to 9,000 pounds in one volunteer session.

It didn’t stop there. Throughout October, Circus Circus Reno raised food with bins placed on the casino floor and during Trick or Treat Street. Employees, customers and community individuals brought in food for the Northern Nevada Food Bank, resulting in over 4,107 pounds of food collected. This is a new record for Circus Circus Reno, one we are extremely proud of and will strive to top next year.

“The October Food Drive was one of the five largest individual food drives in the last year,” said Bill Kolton, Food Bank of Northern Nevada coordinator. “Using Feeding America’s valuation of $1.69 per pound this donation is valued at $6,940.83! This is truly amazing!”

The Food Bank of Northern Nevada is a regional food distribution and support system for more than 130 different direct-service, non-profit agencies who serve the needy, the ill, the elderly and children. Among clients who visit emergency food sites, 11 percent are over age 60. Children are the most vulnerable to hunger with 37 percent of emergency food recipients being children under the age of 18.
