HEALTHY COMMUNITIES COALITION NEWS RELEASE – Last week, Healthy Communities Coalition was recognized by Immunize Nevada for its role in organizing multiple health care groups to provide immunizations at the 2012 Medical Outreach Response Event in Silver Springs. “Our Silver Syringe Awards event is about celebrating the successes of the many people and organizations who are helping keep Nevada’s citizens healthy through immunizations,” said Heidi Parker, Immunize Nevada Executive Director. “There are many passionate individuals who have dedicated their careers to immunizations and improving public health. This evening gives us the opportunity to recognize their commitment to making Nevada a healthier state.”
The Silver Syringe Award Ceremony, the only event that recognizes immunization successes throughout Nevada, was held on March 14 during a dinner at the Grand Sierra in Reno. Karen Ross of NV Energy delivered the keynote presentation. Healthcare providers, as well as community programs, immunization champions, and corporations going above and beyond in the fight against vaccine-preventable diseases in Nevada received Silver Syringe Awards in multiple categories. Healthy Communities was recognized in the “Outstanding Adult Program” category.
Christy McGill director for Healthy Communities Coalition, noted, “The individuals and organizations volunteering at the 2012 Medical Outreach Response Event (MORE) collaborated, combined resources, and developed innovative solutions. Because of their efforts, Nevadans here in our rural communities received vaccines that protect them against many illnesses.”
The Coalition is a team effort by dozens of local, state, federal, and tribal group partners, a dedicated board, a small staff, and hundreds of community volunteers of all ages who contributed 24,000 hours of labor to the region in 2012. With this collaboration, Healthy Communities Coalition produces outstanding measurable results on its goal to strengthen community assets.
