Next Monday, April 1, at 3:30 p.m., Senator Greg Brower (R-Reno) will be joined by Erin Merryn to present Senate Bill 258 to the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services.
SB 258, otherwise known as “Erin’s Law,” establishes a task force to study the prevention of sexual abuse of children.
Monday’s hearing will include testimony from Erin Merryn, the bill’s namesake and nationally recognized advocate for the prevention of the sexual abuse of children. She has appeared on many leading news programs and has been interviewed by Katie Couric, Oprah Winfrey and Montel Williams, among others. She is the author of two books on the subject: Stolen Innocence and Living for Today. Glamour magazine recently named her a Woman of the Year for 2012. Erin’s advocacy on this issue has led to the passage of “Erin’s Law” in five states, including her home state of Illinois. The legislatures of several other states are currently considering bills to pass “Erin’s Law.”
