SUBMITTED STATEMENT
From Ikya Kandula, a student at the Davidson Academy and President of the Green Earth Community Knowledge Organization (GECKO):
“Our club is trying to get every major apartment complex in Reno to start recycling. Our main goal is for apartment residents to have access to recycling, and being a fellow apartment resident, it’s hard to drive down to the recycling center and the guilt really kicks in when you throw away your recyclables. Only six apartment complexes in all of Reno recycle which means all the waste, including tons of recyclables that aren’t being recycled, for more than 200,000 residents is going to ONE landfill in all of Reno! We have the potential to save thousands of dollars for apartment dwellers and the City of Reno, not to mention time and energy.
“Our club has been given the chance to speak to City Council, and present a case study and petition. In two weeks alone, we’ve gotten 250 signatures.
“Please help us out by reading, signing, and sharing this petition through social media sites, your website, or on live radio with any and all Reno residents: http://www.change.org/petitions/require-recycling-in-reno-apartments-reno-residents-only. You can also go to change.org, search Reno, and click on the petition named: Require Recycling in Reno Apartment (Reno Residents Only).
“Help us make a difference in our community. This is only the first step to making Reno the Greenest Little City in the World!”
