 SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

Reno-based environmental group greenUp!, a coalition of sustainability advocates  and green business experts, will host its first public event of 2012. The “Sustainability Interactivity” will take place on Tuesday, March 27, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Swill Coffee and Wine, 3366 Lakeside Court, Reno, Nev.

Jen Huntley, president of greenUp!, leads the evening with a discussion of how Reno businesses can best capitalize on the economic promise of sustainability. Huntley reminds the community that in 2010 National Resources Defense Council listed Reno among the top 20 “smartest cities” because of green initiatives.

“People don’t realize that many Reno businesses not only survived the recession, but actually grew because they adopted business practices that reinforce healthy connections between the environment and community,” Huntley said.

Along with the discussion, the March 27 event provides a networking opportunity for business professionals to connect with each other, local government and non-profit leaders. The event is open to the public at no cost. Food and drink will be available for purchase from Swill.

greenUP! is a coalition of sustainability advocates from the business, nonprofit, government and education sectors of Truckee Meadows and the Central Sierra.  United in our appreciation of our spectacular but fragile natural habitat, we are convinced that sustainable business practices are the key to our region’s economic revival and the foundation for future generations to share the quality of life we now enjoy.
