Nugget chef inducted into elite culinary society

John Ascuaga’s Nugget is proud to announce that their executive chef, Michael A Norton, C.E.C., A.A.C., A.C.E., has been inducted into the elite culinary society, Disciples Escoffier International.  He was honored during a ceremony at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Miami, Florida in October.

Chef Norton has been a culinary leader for more than thirty years.  In August 2008, he joined the staff at John Ascuaga’s Nugget.  He leads an expansive culinary staff responsible for nine diverse restaurants, an in-house bakery and a thriving catering department.  The Nugget offers a wide variety of dining outlets, from upscale fine dining with a unique Basque influence and a top notch steakhouse, to a world class buffet and casual 24 hour coffee shop.

Chef Norton is also a Certified Professional Nutritionist and has been ACF certified since 1987. His honors include: two Culinary Oscars, six medals in ACF Food Competitions, Chef of the Year in 2007 and the ACF Presidents Medal in 2008.

Disciples Escoffier International is an elite culinary society was established in France to maintain the good name and traditions of French Cuisine.  Today, there are more than 20,000 members around the world that includes a large membership in France as well as in China, Hungary, United States, Italy, Japan, Benelux, Canada, Mexico, Portugal Thailand, Germany, South Africa, Morocco and Russia.

It is in this spirit that the Disciples Escoffier International – USA strives to develop a national membership with the establishment of a culinary scholarship fund and continued charitable endeavors.

John Ascuaga’s Nugget is one of the few family-owned casino resorts left in the country. Founded as a coffee shop with a few slot machines on March 17, 1955, John Ascuaga has built the Nugget into a world-class, full-service gaming resort destination.
